　　厭煩了家鄉一成不變的生活，24年前，對大都市東京滿懷憧憬的天野春子（小泉今日子飾）在北三陸電車開通首日離家出走。此去經年，早已成家但生活並不舒心的春子接到母親病危的短信，於是帶着女兒秋（能年玲奈飾）返回家鄉。如之前所料，這一切不過是好友大向大吉（杉本哲太飾）的騙局，其目的是希望春子能夠接替母親夏（宮本信子飾），繼承當地有着悠久歷史且即將消亡的海女職業。存有深深芥蒂的母女倆針鋒相對，爭執不斷；而從未與外婆謀面的秋卻深深為碧海藍天以及海女所吸引。經過數日盤桓，被東京壓抑的空氣逼迫得喘不上氣來的秋作出人生中重要的決定，那就是留下來成為一名海女。
　　全新的天地與道路，可愛的女孩對血緣和命運的回歸，尋找發自心底的快樂……
